Evaluation: Question 6

Blogger is where I uploaded all of my work. Its a way I can file away all my work and a place where both the moderator and teacher can monitor my work.

Photoshop is a software that was important throughout the production of my music magazine. It allowed me to put text over the magazine and also place images wherever I wanted. Photoshop could also be used to cut out images from their background so that I could place them easily. I also used photoshop for its spot healing tool feature so that I could remove any imperfections on my models.
I used Prezi as a better version of presentation. I used it for my publication plan and I also used it for my Evaluation Question 5 where I discussed why I put certain things on my magazine.
I used the SLR camera on all of my images in the magazine because SLR produces good quality pictures. I also learned that pictures taken outside had better lighting and quality,
I used Flickr to upload images, similar to how you would upload video's to YouTube. I then put descriptions under each part of my magazine (Front cover, Contents page and Double page spread)
I used the Mac for everything. This includes Photoshop, Blogger, Prezi, Flickr and the internet. I also used it to upload pictures from my SLR to iphoto.

Evaluation Question 4

This is a drawing of my possible target audience. He is wearing a hooded jacket and trainers to show his youth as my target audience is going to be students aged 16-20. My target audience will be either studying at college or university. The audience will like hip hop and dub step so my magazine will deliver stories and information based on these things. My target audiences hobbies will be things like gaming, software, sports and music production. The target audience like hip hop because this kind of music usually has a lot of reference to teenage life and current issues. The target audience will also like dub step because it is the latest music genre on the market and teenagers are always looking out for whats new and cool.

My target audience likes to shop at JD for his clothing because JD provide the latest trainers and a assortment of hooded jackets and t shirts. With my target audience being teenagers they will be interested in buying the latest clothes. Also the kind of trainers and clothing JD sell are not worn much by older people so this gives teenagers their own identity so they feel separate from older generations.

The target audiences favourite food is more of the fast food and easy to cook kind of food. This is mainly because most student do not how to cook so they usually eat food from take away or easy food at home.

Evaluation Question 2

Posture/Gesture
When I took the pictutre of my model for the front cover of my magazine I needed to decide on the posture and gesture of my model. I looked at other magazines of a similar genre until I found this VIBE magazine. I tried the pose and decided that the attitude worked perfectly. Also the way the model crosses his arms suggests that he doesnt want to reveal anything about himself even though the story next to the model says "Eminem comes clean". Similiraly on my magazine it says "Temple Fess's Up" next to my model. This shows even though they don't want to give any information about themselves away they still have to do it. I also asked my model to scold. This is so it shows even more of an attitude and to look masculine and strong. Also folding their arms makes them look bigger (stronger) and this is the kind of look you want in a male dominated magazine.

Shot/Angle
For the angle I used the eye level angle. This is because a high angle would make the artist look weak and a low angle would make the artist look too intimidating. Eye level also puts you on a personal level with the artist and this works well with the headline next to Eminem being "Eminem Comes Clean". It makes the audience feel as if they are talking to the artist themselves. For shot type I used medium long shot, this is because you can see my models shoulders aswell as his waist. I think that a close up will of looked to personal and a extreme long shot wouldnt work as I would have to have more than one picture on the front of the magazine.

Lighting/Clothing
The front cover of my magazine was dark yet around the model there is a white light so that he is brightened. This is to make him stand out compared to the rest of the magazine. Similiraly on the front of VIBE Eminem is well lit again to make him clear to see and the front of the magazine is also white. Eminem stands out from the magazine because he is wearing a black tank vest, the black tank top stands out from the white background making Eminem look powerful compared to rest of the magazine. My model is wearing a cap to show his youth and he also has it backwards to  emphasis that youth. Adults can be associated with caps but are not generally seen wearing them backwards as this is more of a teenager concept. My model is wearing a shirt because although he is a teenager I wanted to portray him as grown up rather than being child like. The shirt also puts a nice mix into the colours on my the front of my magazine (Black, Red and White).

Hair
Although you cannot see my models hair, I still thought that I should make some point on hair styles I didnt choose. I didnt pick a model who had long hair because it would be misleading and point in the direction of a rock magazine rather than a Dub Step magazine. Also I didnt want my model to be bald because it would make him look like a thug and make people not buy the magazine.

Evaluation: Question 1

The front cover of my magazine and the front cover of the VIBE magazine are very similar. First of all the masthead of both magazines are large and stretched across the top of the magazine, both are in red. I used red because it will attract the audience with it being a bright colour. My model and Eminem are doing the same pose. I used this pose to show attitude and masculinity just like Eminem. Along the side of my model I have a list of stories to gain the audiences attention. I have also included the main artists name in bright red this is to indicate that this is the main story of the magazine. I have not made the font so big that it overpowers the masthead as the masthead is the most important thing on the front cover.

In the lower left corner I have included a website that goes to the Sound Website. This is for easier access for customers so that they can get all the latest news. In the vibe magazine there is also a website. The website gives the magazine a modern look and gives it the potential to link with social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Social networking sites gives the magazine extra FREE publicity otherwise known as Word Of Mouth.

A difference I have noticed in both magazines is that I have put the barcode and price on the front whereas VIBE has the price and barcode on the back of the magazine. I think that VIBE puts the price of the magazine on the back because it gives the consumers a chance to look at the magazine and decide if they like it or not before looking at the price. Seeing the price first could be off putting.

My model and  the VIBE model are positioned differently on both magazines. On my magazine the model is right justified, I did this to create more space on one side of the magazine to list all the stories. Another difference in the magazine is that at the top of the VIBE magazine there is some text such as REAL RAP. This is to give the magazine a tag line. Maybe so that when people see this text the audience will know that it is related to VIBE. There is also another story up there this is more of a tag line question that will be answered at some point in the magazine. I did not include anything at the top because I did not have enough space due to the rest of my front cover.

On the right hand side of both magazines there is a list of artists names. I included the names because it informs the audience of what to expect in the magazine and it also clearly states the genre of the magazine. The names of artists each individually gets its own audience because if one of the names appeals to a consumer they may buy the magazine. Both magazines have a similar kind of drop shadow only mine is much darker to give the magazine a much sinister grime look.

Overall I re drafted my magazine plenty of times including changing the mast head from Soundproof to Sound. I could of maybe improved the magazine cover by changing the font of the masthead as I would of preferred something more sharp rather than curved edges.
For my double page spread I covered one half of the page with an image of my model as the story is about him. I made the image large so that the audience will feel as if they are actually talking to the artist on a personal level. Making the image black and white makes the story stand out compared to all the other bright and colorful adverts that would be in the magazine. I also used black and white because I think that it makes the magazine feel much more personal and friendly. In the double page spread that I am comparing mine with there is not a close up of one of the artists because they are a group and it would take up too much space.

On my double page spread I have a title that says "This Is Me". Again this makes the personal feature consistent. On the other double page spread it says "Will He Wont He" again this is a title that is used so that the audience knows what the text is about before they even begin reading. On my double page spread across the top I have put a bar there so that you can see what this page is about. For example mine says TEMPLE. This being the name of the artist that the page is about.

Here on my contents page I have utilized some of the features from the vibe magazine contents page. These are; The contents text is all right justified with the page numbers on the left hand side; The model in my magazine and the VIBE magazine are similar with a woman's hand going over the shoulder of both of them. Also something that is also similar is that in both magazines the word CONTENTS is done in a different style than just having the word there. For example mine says CONTENTS vertically with the word SOUND coming of the S from CONTENTS. This is because SOUND is the name of my magazine.

A clear opposite in both of these magazines is the colour scheme. While the VIBE magazine uses white for the background and a black and white theme, I used a dark red for the background whilst my model wears a lighter shade of red so that they don't blend in. I used the colour red because it is very eye catching and lively. I also used black text over the page so that it fits in with the rest of my colour scheme.

Research and Planning: Contents page

The last contents page I created was too bare and had a lot of blank space which I have now filled up as well although there are still some blank spots I hope to fill up. I made the main text right justified so that it was nice and neat, I also added a image as that is what I was missing.
