Research and planning: College magazine evaluation
I had a task of creating a college magazine through photoshop and a contents page using indesign. My magazine uses only two fonts the masthead font is called 'Type writer'. I chose this font for the masthead because it has a pixel effect on the text which fits in with the name of my magazine 'Clarendon Connection'. The word 'Connection' and pixel like font create a digital and modern environment. The second font i used is called 'script', i chose this font because it is bold and eye catching. An improvement that i know i need to make on the magazine cover is that i need more subheadings along the side so that there are more stories that the audience will instantly see and want to read. At the bottom of the screen there is a story that says 'Get Wesleys Story On Why He Came To Hyde' this should be a popular subject that a lot of first year students will be keen to buy and read the magazine as it suits their current situation. I had too make sure that the masthead always has a bigger font size than anything else in the magazine. This is because the masthead is the main heading and should therefore be the biggest and most important. I used the colour red because it is attractive to the eye and would stand out around the college. The the other two main colours are silver and white.
My magazine cover has a main colour scheme of red and silver, the only other colours opposing that is the brown building and the black t shirt that the student is wearing on the front cover. The colour red is very attractive to people so it will instantly catch the attention of the audience allowing them to pick up the magazine and read it. My magazine cover uses the Z layout this is because typically in Europe people will read from the top left and down to the bottom whereas in foreign countries they will read from the right side of the page or even downwards.
The contents page is a simple layout. The
This is my contents page. I have used a simple layout on this page so it is easier to read. The font is consistent throughout the page and so is the colour scheme (black, red and silver). At the bottom of the page there is a happy student and a pen. The happy student represents the way students will feel when they read the magazine. The pen is relevant to college life and also represents the work that students will have to put in to be happy like the other student.
I think that the contents page could be improves by adding more images. I also think the way I have used all 3 colours is too much.

Research and Planning: magazine review
I made this magazine page by using in design cs4. I took a 300 review of the internet and then imported it onto in design.
Research and planning: college magazine analysis
We can tell that this magazine cover is a college magazine, the most obvious way being that it says "college magazine" underneath where it says beloit. The girl on the front is wearing the ceremonial uniform that you wear when you leave college so this also clearly suggests that this is a college magazine. On top of the hat that she is wearing is a sign saying exit this appeals to teenagers as it is humorous. The magazine has a fresh green look from the tree behind the girl this gives a natural atmosphere. There are three main colours on this magazine colour black, white and green, this is sticking to the "rules" of a typical magazine.

Reserch and Planning: magazine cover
I made this by opening a blank a a4 page. I then added a text box and put the text inside. I added a drop shadow to the text and then made the background blue. I added the picture of Chris Rock to the picture and cut out the background.

Research and Planning: Skin tutorial
I edited this picture in photoshop and used the spot healing tool to get rid of any imperfections in the face. I then created a duplicate background layer. I used the blur filter to make the face have a cartoon type effect, then changed the opacity from 100% to 45%. I then used a brush to add an eye shaddow effect. I used a separate brush to make the hair pink and then slightly lowered the opacity to make the colour blend in. I added a small amount of blush to the cheeks for a natural effect. This was only the first time i used photo shop.

Research and Planning: cd cover
i used the elliptical tool to cut the cd out and put it onto the notes background. I then changed the colour of the cd, rotated it and placed it in the bottom right corner. I then used the same elliptical tool to cut out a horn and then place it on the same note background.
